Date Ideas

Volunteer Date Night

This week for date night, John and I dressed up like dinosaurs and chased a bunch of little kids…

We really did.

But it’s not how it sounds.

We volunteered to help with David’s school fundraiser which was a jog-a-thon. And since we signed up late, jungle duty was the only thing they still needed help with. But that’s ok. Nothing beats real life Jurassic Park bonding. Lol.

Basically, all we did was put on costumes and high five, wave, and roar at kids as they ran through the course that was set up. It was pretty fun to see all the cute kiddos (especially David) running through!

Some really fun (and cheap!) date ideas can come from volunteering. In the past, John and I have volunteered to help at a food pantry, done adaptive aquatics with children that have special needs, and even helped clean a church run pasta factory. (That last one left flour and dust everywhere!)

Depending on the location and activity, there can be a lot of time you spend talking with each other.

Also, what a great way to get to know someone by seeing how they serve? And what a great way to strengthen a relationship by working together to serve others? Plus, you might even have time to grab smoothies or a dessert on the way home. So… win, win. Haha!

Some other volunteer activities could be:
cleaning cages and bowls at the animal shelter
visiting a retirement home
cleaning up trash at a park
raking a neighbors leaves
making a treat together to drop off to someone (and then enjoying the leftovers afterwards!)

I would definitely say that not every date night should be a volunteering one, since you do need to make sure you have dates where you can just focus on each other, but at the same time, volunteering together can be a great way to switch up date night and help others as well.

Plus, who wants to pass up an opportunity to dress up like a dinosaur?

Maybe next year we’ll get lucky and try out the gorilla costumes as well! A girl can dream, right? Lol.
